Bookings are essential. In order to get a confirmed space into the hourly Supervised Safety Briefing.
A Briefing lasts around an hour, during which you will climb several times, in order to get checked off. After that, you have an hour to climb where you like.
Briefings can be booked on the hour.

Who needs a Briefing?
Everyone who plans on climbing with ropes must have a Briefing unless they have a HangDog Top Rope Belay License.
Can I skip the Supervised Safety Briefing?
Even if you are a very experienced belayer you still need to attend a lesson on the hour. But if you meet the fast track requirements below, show the instructor your skills and they will recognize your ability and set you free to climb where you like. So it wont take long.
Coming in now and haven't got a booking?
You can always try you luck. However, it is not certain that there will be a space available at the time you arrive. We will do our best to fit you in the Safety Briefing. Therefore, make a booking!
Large Groups
If you have a large group you need to make a booking so that we can be prepared for you. Large groups that book can also receive discounts. Contact us for more info.Unfortunately we are unable to take large bookings (more than 10 in total including belayers) on weeknights after 5:00pm.
Cant make the hour exactly?
Do try, but its not the end of the world. At the time you make the booking let us know that you will to be a few minutes late. If you need to be quite early then you can always hangout and watch, or climb at low levels while you wait.
You will STILL be taught on the HOUR.

Top Rope Belay License
If you don't have a Top Rope Belay License then you need to make a booking for a Supervised Safety Briefing in order to climb at HangDog. If you do have a current license then you don't need a booking and can come in when ever you like.
How to get your license
To get your license you must have belayed at least once with a Grigri (anywhere) within the last 2 months. And then you must attend a HangDog Supervised Safety Briefing.
How long does the license last?
The license never expires as long as you use it. If you don't climb, using a Grigri, (anywhere) for more than 2 months you'll need to attend another HangDog Supervised Safety Briefing.
Really experienced?
You still need to book a lesson on the hour. BUT, show your skills to the instructor and explain your experience and the instructor may choose to pass you quickly, probably takes about 10 minutes. The requirements are not set in stone. One person with loads of experience may be a poor belayer and another beginner may be excellent. With that in mind, our instructors have flexibility in what they accept based on the person's ability.Basically, it's a balance of the number of times you've belayed using a Grigri and the recentness of that use.
